          The state of Kerala having it’s unique mix of geo, political, economic and cultural factors combined with high literacy rates presents significant demand from the vast educated unemployed youth for employment oriented skills. With a view to enhance the self employability potential of the educated un employed and artisans, this institute had identified certain employment oriented trades in which theory and practical trainings were imparted. Since then, the major activities of MSME TRAINING INSTITUTES have been the Entrepreneurship Development training programmes and skill development programmes  as sanctioned by the DEVELOPMENT COMMISSIONER-MSME from time to time. The MSME Development Institute in Trissur is the principal Nodal Agency of this Organization in Kerala to promote and accelerate the growth of the MSME Sector in Kerala. The Institutes in Thiruvalla and Ettumanur are Training oriented Institutes unique in it’s kind in the state of Kerala under the Ministry of MSME, Government of India.

METHODOLOGY OF TRAINING

            In the above training programmes, the trainees are exposed to rigorous theoretical and practical training in the respective activity. Management aspects of Banking, Achievement motivation, Entrepreneurship, Customer relations, Marketing, Accountancy & Book keeping, Project Report preparation, and the trainees are enlightened oninformation on Government assistance and support schemes that are thoroughly discussed. Industry study Visits are arranged to relevant industrial units to familiarize the trainees with latest innovations in the respective fields. The MSME-TI faculty is supported by guest faculties from reputed Agencies/Organisations, Industrial houses, Government Departments and Successful Entrepreneurs.

                 MSME-TI, Ettumanur is organizing comprehensive training programmes to upgrade skills of prospective entrepreneurs, existing workforce and also develop skills of new workers and technicians of MSEs.  The basic objective is to provide training for their skill upgradation and to equip them with better and improved technological skills of production. The specific tailor-made programmes for the skill development of socially disadvantaged groups (SC and ST) are organized at free of cost

             A Govt. of India certificate will be issued to all successful candidates. The eligibility criteria are (i) Age: above 18 years old (ii) Educational Qualification: passed at least 8th standard or equivalent.

INDUSTRIAL MOTIVATION CAMPAIGN

          Industrial motivation campaigns are organized to identify and motivate traditional/non traditional entrepreneurs having  potential for setting up of MSEs so as to lead them towards self employment. This programme is of one day duration and no fees is charged

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

            Entrepreneurship development programmes are being organized to nurture the talent of youth by enlightening them on various aspects of industrial activity required for setting up MSEs. The course contents of the Entrepreneurship development programmes are designed to provide useful information on product/process design, manufacturing practices involved, testing and quality control, selection and usage of appropriate machinery and equipments, project profile preparation, marketing avenues/techniques, product/service pricing, export oppurchunities, infrastructure facilities available, finance and financial institutions,
Cash flow etc., The course fee is Rs.100/-  Women/Physically challenged candidates are charged only 50% of the fees. There is no fees for SC/ST Candidates. The duration of the programme is two weeks.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES

            Comprehensive training programmes are organized to upgrade skills of prospective entrepreneurs, existing work force and also develop skills of new workers and technicians of MSEs by organizing various technical cum skill development  training programmes with the basic objective of providing training for their skill upgradation and to equip them with better and improved technological skills of production. The specific tailor-made programme for the skill development of socially disadvantaged groups (OBC/SC/ST/Minorities/women/physically challenged) are organized in the southern districts from Ernakulam district southwards.  The course fee is Rs.200/-  Women/Physically challenged candidates are charged only 50% of the fees. There is no fees for SC/ST Candidates. The duration of the programme is six weeks.

MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

             The objective of imparting training on management practice system is to improve their decision making capabilities resulting in higher productivity and profitability of existing and potential entrepreneurs and developing new enterprises. Inputs on a variety of topics of managerial functions are provided to the participants by experts which aims at dissemination of knowledge of scientific/modern management techniques/practices.

            Management training course on various areas of INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT are devised for owner cum manager and supervisory level personnel of small scale Industries. These training programmes are designed keeping in view the demands of the area and the local requirements of the industries. The nature of target groups and it’s profile determines the course content to be made in order to make them suitable for contemporary managerial practices. This may be used by MSMEs executives for obtaining desired strength of managerial action. The various topics covered under these training programmes pertain to various management functions like industrial management, human resource management, marketing management, Export management and documentation, materials management, financial management information technology and exports, ISO 9000, WTO, IPR etc., The course fee is Rs.400/-  Women/Physically challenged candidates are charged only 50% of the fees. There is no fees for SC/ST Candidates. The duration of the programme is 5 days.

             MSME-TI, Ettumanur, Kerala organizes short duration Management Development Programmes(MDP) for benefit of MSMEs of the State of Kerala.  Management failure is one of the main reasons for sickness in the industry.  Many of the owner-managers of MSMEs or their employees might not had the opportunity to undergo formal management education.  So these programmes are held in order to equip the managers of MSMEs with informal management education.  Normally an MDP is of 36 hours duration executed continuously or as evening programmes.  Some of the subjects in which MSME-TI, Ettumanur, Kerala conducted MDP recently are as follows.

IMPACT OF MSME TI TRAINING

                The new Training Programmes under the MSME TI are being widely accepted by the educated unemployed youth of Kerala. The Programmes are announced through DAVP/ local news papers and other audio visual media like AIR and Doordarshan. The medias provide effective coverage and the resultant response to our trainings are overwhelming. The quantum of achievement of trainees turned entrepreneurs is satisfying.

POST FOLLOW UP ACTION –POST TRAINING SUPPORT

                Normally the gestation period after the completion of the training appears to be one to two years. MSME TI has been able to help the participants who are otherwise willing to set up units immediately after the training. This Institute has a follow up programme for providing continued technical and entrepreneurial guidance to ex trainees of this Institute for assisting in setting up of self employment ventures or tiny enterprises and also for collecting feedback information regarding their employment subsequent to training. The consultancy/ advice required by the ex trainees is provided either through personal discussions or written communication.

              The spirit with which the local people, their representatives, Government semi Government and non Government Organizations participate and involve in MSME TI activities and their keen interest in our trainings is highly encouraging. This calls for more enthusiasm and delivery from our part. We do feel that there is still more scope for improvement in the quality and quantity of our training. MSME TI re dedicate itself to towards better performance for the cause for Entrepreneurship and skill development for the years to come.
